Large Area Solutions
Due to demand from domestic cropping and wine producers, LY Lasers is developing a specialized system to help producers keep birds away from their fields.
Bird predation causes major economic losses in vineyards by reducing yields (5–30%), lowering grape quality, and increasing costs. Damaged grapes are prone to mold and fermentation issues, leading to price downgrades or rejection.
Studies show:
-
New York: 5–10% yield loss, $2,000/acre cost (Saxton 2014)
-
-
Australia: $50M AUD annual losses, 30% damage in unprotected areas (Anderson 2013)
-
-
California: $70–100/acre losses (Tobin 2002)
-
Proactive bird control is cost-effective for high-value vineyards, and smart laser solutions are the most cost effective way to keep birds away.
LY Laser has agreed a pilot with a large wine producer in the North-West of China to keep birds away from grapes during harvest time. It is believed that there is anywhere between 10-15% loss of value in grapes due to birds.

LY Laser AI will be deployed in numerous areas of the vineyard to identify key times where birds are damaging grapes at the Vineyard, and a specialized laser will be developed to combat these problems.
